Rossif Sutherland (birthname: Rossif Racette-Sutherland) is a Canadian actor and part of the Sutherland family of actors, including father Donald and half-brother Kiefer, and who debuted in Paramount Pictures’ historical sci-fi adventure, Timeline (2003), starring Paul Walker, Frances O’Connor, Gerard Butler and Billy Connolly under producer Richard Donner’s direction, and then Sutherland appeared in the supporting cast of director/writer/producer Georgia Lee’s Chinese American family drama, Red Doors (2005), with Tzi Ma, Jacqueline Kim, Elaine Kuo and Sebastian Stan, and released by Warner Brothers Pictures/Polychrome Pictures after premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it won the best narrative feature prize.
Sutherland was cast by director/story writer Zackary Adler’s rom-com, I’m Reed Fish (2006), co-starring Jay Baruchel, Alexis Bledel, Schuyler Fisk and Katey Sagal, and distributed by Screen Media Films after launching at the Tribeca Film Festival, followed by Sutherland landing his first starring role in director/co-writer/producer Clement Virgo’s Canadian drama, Poor Boy’s Game (2007), with Danny Glover and premiering at the Berlin Film Festival.

Rossif Sutherland co-starred with Joel Kinnaman, Percy Hynes White and Tom Holland in director/co-writer Rob Connolly’s Canadian psychological thriller, Edge of Winter (2016), released by Vertical Entertainment, and then Sutherland starred or co-starred in a range of Canadian movies from director/co-writer Leo Scherman’s WWI horror movie, Trench 11 (2017) and director/co-writer Per Fly’s political thriller, Backstabbing for Beginners (2018), with Theo James and Ben Kingsley, to director/writer/producer Atom Egoyan’s drama, Guest of Honor (2019), starring David Thewlis, Laysla De Oliveira and Arsinee Khanjian and released by Kino Lorber (in the U.S.) after premiering at the Venice Film Festival.
Sutherland played a supporting role in the IFC Films-released American spy drama, A Call to Spy (2019), starring Sarah Megan Thomas (who also wrote and produced), Stana Katic, Radhika Apte and Linus Roache, followed by Sutherland joining Andrea Riseborough, Christopher Abbott, Tuppence Middleton, Sean Bean and Jennifer Jason Leigh in director/writer Brandon Cronenberg’s Canadian/British horror film, Possessor (2020), premiering at the Sundance Film Festival and released by Neon.
Sutherland was featured in Norwegian director/writer Bent Hamer’s black comedy, The Middle Man (2021), which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and then Sutherland returned to Canada for the Pat Mills-directed slasher movie, The Retreat (2021), and then co-starred in his biggest-grossing movie to date with Paramount Players’ horror movie, Orphan: First Kill (2022), co-starring Isabelle Fuhrman, Hiro Kanagawa and Julia Stiles under William Brent Bell’s direction, and grossing over $45 million.
Sutherland starred in director/writer/producer Darlene Naponse’s Canadian First Nations romantic drama, Stellar (2022), which launched at the Toronto Film Festival, followed by Sutherland co-starring in director Osgood Perkins’ American horror movie, Keeper (2025), co-starring Tatiana Maslany, written by Nick Lepard, and opening wide by distributor Neon.
Rossif Sutherland was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, and raised in Vancouver and Paris, France by his parent-actors Donald Sutherland and Francine Racette. Sutherland has two brothers, Roeg and Angus, and has a half-brother, actor Kiefer Sutherland, and half-sister Rachel (Kiefer’s twin). Sutherland attended and graduated from Princeton University, majoring in Philosophy. Sutherland has been married to British actor Celina Sinden since 2016; the couple has a son named Theodore.
