Lashana Lynch is a British-born actor who has performed supporting roles in both Marvel and Bond franchise movies and is the first Black female actor in a prominent role in the Bond franchise’s 57-year history. Her feature debut was in Regan Hall’s feel-good track-and-field movie, Fast Girls (2012), with Lenora Crichlow and Lily James. Lynch joined the ensemble of the film version of Rachel Hiron’s Powder Room (2013), with Sheridan Smith, Jaime Winstone, Kate Nash, and Oona Chaplin.
Lynch’s big break was her casting as pilot Maria Rambeau in Anna Boden’s and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel (2019), with Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, and Djimon Hounsou, and amassing a worldwide gross of nearly $1.13 billion. Turning from Marvel World to Bond World, Lynch was cast as the new “007” in Cary Joji Fukunaga’s No Time to Die (2021), with Daniel Craig (in his final Bond appearance), Rami Malek, and Lea Seydoux.
Lashana Lynch returned to her Marvel role as Rambeau in the Disney/Marvel sequel directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), with Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Earning one of her biggest roles to date, Lynch was cast opposite Viola Davis and John Boyega in Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King (2022), premiering at the Toronto Film Festival.
Another high-profile role for Lynch rolls out in December 2022, with Netflix/Sony Pictures’ Matilda the Musical, a musical version of Roald Dahl’s story, with Alisha Weir, Andrea Riseborough, and Emma Thompson. Lynch co-starred with Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob Marley in Bob Marley: One Love (2024), Reinaldo Marcus Green’s film based on Terence Winter’s screenplay. Lynch is set to star in Oliver Schmitz’s South Africa saga, The Outside Room (date to be announced), with Vanessa Redgrave and Emily Beecham.
Lashana Lynch was born in the West End of London, and raised in a single-parent household by a mother of Jamaican descent. Her sister is Anwar Lynch. Lashana Lynch graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the London-based Arts Educational School and won the Laurence Olivier Bursary during her second at the school. Her height is 5’ 8½”.
