Harvey Guillén (birthname: Javier Guillén) is best known as the human character, Guillermo, in the hit series, What We Do in the Shadows (2019-present), and has moved into feature film roles, such as the voice of Perrito in the DreamWorks Animation sequel, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022).
Guillén’s feature debut as a supporting actor was in writer-producer-director Tom Morris’ comedy, General Education (2012), with Janeane Garofalo and Larry Miller, followed by the higher-profile comedy, The Internship (2013), directed by Shawn Levy and co-written and co-produced by star Vince Vaughn, with Owen Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Max Minghella, and earning nearly double ($93.5 million) its $58 million budget.
Eight years passed until Guillén’s next theatrical feature performance in the Josh Ruben-director horror-comedy (based on the popular video game), Werewolves Within (2021), produced and starring Sam Richardson, and premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival.
A year later, Harvey Guillén gained his most prominent role to date as Puss in Boots’ Perrito, opposite Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, John Mulaney, Wagner Moura, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Guillén’s other 2022 feature was the sci-fi comedy, I’m Totally Fine, directed and co-written (with Alisha Ketry) by Brandon Dermer, and with Jillian Bell and Natalie Morales.
Guillén co-starred with Sarah Ramos, Aurora Perrineau, Nick Thune, and Michael Vlamis in writer-director Vlamis’ thriller, Crossword (2023), and then co-starred in the Angel Manuel Soto-directed superhero movie, Blue Beetle (2023), with Susan Sarandon, Xolo Mariduena, Damián Alcázar, George Lopez, and Elpidia Carillo.
