In a year marked by a relatively restricted flow of new titles and diminishing grosses, Warner Bros. has been the belle of the ball thus far in 2024. After only 15 weeks, the studio has already crossed $1 billion in international box office revenue, the earliest point in its rich 101-year history that it has reached this mark.
Warner Bros. hit this milestone on the success of two new releases and continued production in Q1 from several holiday releases. Warner Bros. ended 2023 with several big titles, most notably WONKA and AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM which earned $164 million and $130 million respectively in international markets in the first quarter.
Warner Bros. is also behind the two biggest movies of 2024 DUNE: PART TWO and GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE. International grosses for both films were particularly strong, with DUNE 2 earning $425 million and GODZILLA X KONG earning more than $300 million.
What’s more, WB appears to have an impressive slate ahead with TWISTERS (7/19/24), BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE (9/6/24) and JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX (10/4/24). It seems likely that Warner Bros. will wind up with the crown as the top-performing studio at the box office for 2024.
