1 Screen, 299 Seats
8 N. Main Steet, Cedar Springs, MI 49319, USA
The Kent Theatre, located at 8 N. Main Street, Cedar Springs, Michigan, is a historic single‑screen venue steeped in community heritage and artistic revival. Originally built in the late 1880s as the Hubbard Opera House, it hosted everything from silent films and vaudeville acts to political rallies and community gatherings in its early years.
In the 1920s it was converted into a movie house (known then as the Emprise Theatre), before being remodeled into the Kent Theatre in the 1930s with a new façade, marquee, and projection upgrades.
After closing in the mid‑1970s, the building sat unused for years until the Cedar Springs Theatre Association acquired it in 1998.
Since then, local volunteers have slowly restored parts of it and turned it into a hub for both film and live performance, hosting plays, concerts, poetry readings, community events, and occasional movie nights.
Inside, the Kent Theatre seats about 299 people and retains its vintage, intimate atmosphere. While its programming leans toward classic and community‑centered events, the theater continues to serve as a gathering place that preserves Cedar Springs’ cultural legacy and provides a nostalgic experience for locals and visitors alike.
