Our good friends and colleagues at Gower Street Analytics have weighed in with an early look at the 2025 box office, forecasting growth in 2025 of 9% in the domestic market and 8% worldwide. Figures will climb from 2024’s $8.9B domestic and $30.5B worldwide to $9.7B domestic and $33B worldwide in 2025. If it plays out this way, 2025 will continue a stabilization and modest recovery from the pandemic disruptions, forcing theatres to close and disrupting moviegoing habits.
Rob Mitchell, Gower’s Director of Theatrical Insights, point to an increased number of major releases as a key factor in expanding revenues. Studios will drop new releases from the Avatar, MCU, Mission Impossible, John Wick and The Conjuring franchises, and sequels to ZOOTOPIA, WICKED, PADDINGTON and M3GAN. James Gunn’s SUPERMAN movie looks to be a potential blockbuster, while there will also be new original films from popular directors Bong Joon-ho, Osgood Perkins and Ryan Coogler. “The 2025 Calendar has everything…there is huge potential for a breakout beyond our current projections,” said Mitchell.
