The Polk Theatre in Lakeland, Florida is a classic movie theater with an intriguing past and vibrant present. Situated at 121 South Florida Avenue, the visionaries from Lakeland who built it in 1928 decided to create something grand, despite the town having only a modest population of 15,000 inhabitants. The theater was built in the atmospheric architectural style, one of only two remaining atmospheric theaters in Florida. It is even home to a working pipe organ, adding a touch of grandeur. It has a permanent backdrop resembling a charming Venetian piazza and is adorned with a starlit ceiling full of twinkling stars, creating a magical atmosphere. Today, the theater hosts live performances and community events as well as screenings for current and classic movies.
