We are delighted to highlight this fascinating interview with theatre owner Michael Moore, who operates the State and Bijou Theatres in Michigan and organizes the Traverse City Film Festival (TCFF). Recently, Moore was relieved when he was informed by the Small Business Administration that his application for a Shuttered Venue Operators Grant had been approved and that he would soon be receiving a sizeable amount in disaster relief funding. He intends to use these resources towards deferred repairs and maintenance on the buildings and to re-hire staff in preparation for re-opening. Moore walks through the many challenges that independent theatres have had to cope with in order to survive the pandemic, and be in a position to re-open. As funds from the SVOG program continue to flow, many theatre owners are seeing signs that a restart for exhibitors can play out across America.
