Damian McCarthy is an Irish filmmaker specializing in horror movies, having been director/writer/producer of five short films from 2009 to 2013. McCarthy made his feature debut as director/writer/producer of the horror drama, Caveat (2020), starring Ben Caplan, Johnny French, and Leila Sykes, and released by Shudder.
McCarthy was director-writer of the Irish-U.S.-made paranormal horror movie, Oddity (2024), co-produced by Shudder and starring Gwilym Lee and premiering at the South by Southwest film festival (where it won the audience award in the festival’s Midnighter section), before release by IFC Films.
Damian McCarthy was born and raised in Bantry, Ireland by his parents, including his father John (electrical shop owner). McCarthy has two sisters, Miriam (makeup artist) and Linda. McCarthy attended and from St. Johns University in Cork, Ireland.

Awards: Damian McCarthy has won several awards as a filmmaker of short and feature-length horror films, including the Melies d’Argent Award for Best Short Film, the Delta Film Award, the Cutting Edge Award for Best Emerging Horror Director, the Award of the Festival at the Indie Cork Film Festival and the Total Film Best Scare Award at London’s Frightfest.
