The doomsayers who made headlines last year by predicting moviegoing’s demise are singing a different tune these days.
Wall Street analysts, who not so long ago were applauding the virtues of streaming, are now revising upwards their earnings projections for major theatre circuits. Media observers, who didn’t believe moviegoers would return now that they can stream films at home, are now marveling at the quick turnaround at the multiplexes.
This weekend’s lively launch for MORTAL KOMBAT & DEMON SLAYER THE MOVIE: MUGEN TRAIN (pictured) follows in the big box office footsteps of GODZILLA VS. KONG. Things are clearly looking up since the movie hating governors of NY & California, at last, let cinemas reopen (with capacity restrictions) & studios finally started releasing films people really want to see.
Moviegoers have eagerly returned, which augers well for the fast-approaching summer season that’s filled with tentpole movies. With increasing vaccination rates and a widespread decline in hospitalizations, audiences want to start enjoying films again on the big screen with their families & friends – and tubs of fresh, hot buttered popcorn!
