Emily Railsback is an American director, screenwriter, producer, and educator with a background in visual arts. In 2015 she started Burnt Sugar Productions with award-winning sommelier, and now husband, Jeremy Quinn. Their first feature documentary "Our Blood Is Wine" premiered at the Berlinale International Film Festival in 2018, followed by a US theatrical release by Music Box Films and an international release by Magnet Film. Railsback's style blends narrative, documentary, and cinéma vérité techniques, giving her actors freedom to improvise dialogue, as is the case in her narrative feature-length directorial debut, "American Parent." In addition to narrative films and documentaries, she also creates music videos, photography exhibits, and live comedy performances that focus on issues of feminism, social justice, and the environment. She received her MFA from Columbia College Chicago where she taught for four years. Hoping to tell more rural stories, she now resides in Arkansas where she teaches film production at the University of Central Arkansas.
