The Formula 1 movie may not hit the big screen until June 27, 2025, but the latest trailer just dropped—and so did our jaws. From high-speed drama to a redemption arc straight out of Hollywood’s playbook, here’s what we learned from the newest sneak peek.
1. Brad Pitt’s Character Is Running on Regret (and Probably Red Bull)
Meet Sonny Hayes, a former racing prodigy who swapped F1 glory for… a life of questionable decisions. The trailer opens with his gambling, living in a motorhome, and staring dramatically into the distance like a man either reminiscing about his past victories or trying to remember if he left the stove on.
But his boss, played by Javier Bardem, sees potential. “Some people look at Sonny and see a guy who missed his shot,” he says. “I see a possibility.” Translation: We’re about to make a movie out of this guy’s comeback, and it’s going to be epic.
2. Old Dog, Meet Young Pup
Enter Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), a fresh-faced rookie who does not roll out the red carpet for his new teammate. The two exchange barbs that would make even F1’s most notorious rivalries blush.
Pearce: “When was the last time you won a race?”
Hayes: “Sunday. Daytona.”
Pearce: “Oh, I meant F1.”
Hayes: “Oh, then… same as you.”
We love some good old-fashioned teammate tension. It’s like Rush meets Talladega Nights—and we’re here for it.
3. Fast Cars, Big Drama, and… a Love Story?
Who says you can’t mix high-speed action with a little romance? The trailer teases a moment between Brad Pitt’s Hayes and Kerry Condon’s character, Kate, a tech genius running the team’s operations.
Now, will this be a heartwarming subplot, or will it fuel even more tension between Hayes and his not-so-friendly teammate? Either way, we’re ready for some on- and off-track fireworks.
4. You Don’t Need an F1 PhD to Enjoy This
Director Joseph Kosinski (of Top Gun: Maverick fame) promises this isn’t just a movie for F1 fanatics. Sure, the racing scenes will be the chef’s kiss, but the real focus? Friendship, teamwork, sacrifice, and redemption. If you like sports movies, action, or watching Brad Pitt look effortlessly cool, this one’s for you.
As Kosinski puts it, “If you’re an F1 fan, you’ll love it. If you’re not an F1 fan, you’ll probably still love it—and maybe even start watching races.”
5. Brad Pitt is Actually Driving These Cars (And We’re Sweating a Little)
Think it’s all CGI and green screens? Think again. Pitt trained to drive modified F2 cars at speeds over 180 mph, with Lewis Hamilton personally coaching him. Hamilton made sure Pitt could drive before signing onto the film.
The verdict? Pitt’s got real talent behind the wheel. And now we kind of want to see him in a real F1 race. (Netflix, get on that Drive to Survive crossover episode.)
