Emerald Fennell—the Oscar-winning writer-director behind Promising Young Woman (2020) and the provocative Saltburn (2023) returns with a daring new adaptation of Emily Brontë’s gothic classic WUTHERING HEIGHTS (2026). Fennell not only directs but also writes and produces the film, continuing her bold auteur-driven streak.
The Warners-backed project is one of the studio’s biggest prestige bets of the year, with a budget reported north of $90 million and a visual design intended for large-format presentation. Fennell reteams with cinematographer Linus Sandgren and composer Anthony Willis, aiming to balance period storytelling authentically with her signature flair for modern, unsettling details.
The ensemble cast is led by Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, with supporting turns from Paul Mescal, Florence Pugh, and rising star Sheila Atim.
Though Brontë’s 1847 novel has been adapted for the screen many times, Fennell’s version is expected to reflect its transgressive tone, blending eroticism, psychological drama, and surreal imagery with gothic romanticism.
WUTHERING HEIGHTS (2026) is set to hit theaters on February 13 (US) and February 14 (UK), 2026—perfectly timed for Valentine’s Day.
