Tyler Russell is a writer-director of Christian-themed features and shorts best known for collaborating with his mother and best-selling Christian novelist Karen Kingsbury on several children’s books. After appearing as an actor in 2015 short, Prize Fighter, Russell focused on screenwriting and directing, with two shorts, I Know It’s You (2021) and Ashley and Landon (2022), as well as writing credits on Hallmark-produced TV series created by Kingsbury.
Russell’s debut as a feature filmmaker was the romantic drama, Someone Like You (2024), based on Karen Kingsbury’s novel, for which Russell was director/co-writer/co-producer/editor/music supervisor, and which co-starred Sarah Fisher, Jake Allyn, and Lynn Collins, and released in a wide pattern by Fathom Events.
Tyler Russell was born and raised by parents Karen Kingsbury (best-selling Christian author) and his father Don Russell. Russell has three birth siblings and three sibling brothers adopted from Haiti. Russell attended Lipscomb University and graduated in 2015 with a BFA in theater directing.
